The Sycamore House Restaurant is located in the stately Landmark Building at 210 Main Street.

Owners and chefs Michael Eastham and wife Stella LeGardeur live upstairs over the restaurant, so don’t be surprised if you see a few of their children’s toys out front. Although the Sycamore House has arrived as a major Gulf Coast dining destination, it has somehow managed to bypass pretension altogether.

Another clue would be the sign out front that reads, “Come Casual, We’ll Supply the Elegance.” Stepping inside, diners will see the restaurant has made good on its promise. Rooms with high ceilings and thick wood moldings are lit by glowing chandeliers. Tables draped with linens are set with glimmering silverware and china fit for royalty. One of the restaurant’s charming traditions is to serve meals on a variety of vintage china patterns.

But the menu is what has built the Sycamore House a fan-base of foodies who drive over regularly from New Orleans – home of some of the world’s top restaurants. The menu ranges from melt-in-your-mouth steaks to seasonal specialties like cassoulet of local rabbit with fennel. In the mood for a lighter meal? Try the grilled salmon salad or a bowl of the Sunchoke soup, made with Jerusalem artichokes that give the rich broth a nutty flavor that lingers luxuriously on the tongue.

Appetizers like the flauta du jour (with fresh seasonal stuffings) and the scrumptious scallops can turn a stop at the bar for a glass of wine into a perfect late evening meal. And the artful presentation of each dish is a treat unto itself.

While Sycamore House has built its reputation on top-quality ingredients served up in specialty dishes, another large part of the restaurant’s charm is its versatility. In addition to hosting romantic dinners for two, or elegant anniversary gatherings complete with wine-pairings, it also magically serves up bistro food like burgers and gourmet pizzas for families or couples seeking escape from fast-food mania.

Sunday Brunch at Sycamore House has become a tradition for many, while Wednesdays are “sushi nights,” when imaginative rolls are created with a mouth-watering twist on traditional Japanese fare.

Savvy brides are lining up to book the restaurant for smaller fuss-free weddings, beginning with brunch and going through ceremony to reception – all in the same gracious historic building with no shuttling of guests required.

One of the best parts? The bill. No wonder New Orleanians are driving over to the coast for their meals! Grand food, refined dining areas, a lovely table setting that would satisfy royalty, and prices that range from $10.95 for a ½ lb. burger to a full rack of lamb chops with Moroccan fig sauce for $30. A 16” BBQ Shrimp pizza runs $17.99.
