Martha Whitney was featured as MSU Coastal Extension’s “Inspiring Designer 2023,” a Main Stage Presenter at AIFD Southern Chapter’s regional meeting, and continues to share her passion and knowledge through demonstrations, presentations, and classes throughout the South. Notably, she also founded the Raw Oyster Marching Club, a vibrant group of women who add their own unique flair to local parades.

Every now and then, an organization goes beyond its mission statement, exceeding community expectations by crafting an ecosystem of creativity, leadership, and practical skills. M.A.P.- Music, Art & Practicality is one such gem in Hancock County, MS. Serving as a testament to the transformative power of the arts, M.A.P. has been providing no-cost, high-quality opportunities for children to immerse themselves in the arts since 2009.
Serving as a creative haven, M.A.P. broadens the horizons of children with theater, dance, musical performances, visual art classes, and even practical life skills such as sewing, cooking, and building. The non-profit believes strongly in the power of the arts to foster imagination, respect, self-awareness, and an array of essential social and practical skills.
M.A.P.'s annual schedule is punctuated with vibrant events such as the 'Reach for the Stars' children's talent show in spring, a summer theater production at the Hancock Performing Arts Center, a heartwarming Christmas play. There is no cost for children to participate in these events.
M.A.P.'s impact extends beyond the arts. The non-profit assists local schools with drama productions, contributes to community projects, and even fosters leadership skills among older participants through its Youth Advisory Committee, 'The YACS'. Through planning and executing events, these young leaders earn valuable volunteer hours and annual Presidential Volunteer Service Awards.

This summer, M.A.P. doubled the fun with two productions. Disney's Winnie the Pooh and Footloose Youth Edition showcased young talent from grades K-12, proving once again that M.A.P. is dedicated to including every child who expresses an interest. While the Disney’s Winnie the Pooh performance was held in June, Footloose Youth Edition will be held on July 14-16 at the Hancock Performing Arts Center.
